Janet Lee Carey's Writing Lessons
Prolific and honored YA writer Janet Lee Carey gave a SCBWI talk last week about reviving your failing tale. It was full of great advice, most notably that frequently a writer will have too many plot threads cluttering up the story. She likens it to an octopus. Her advice if those threads do not serve the plot? Amputation. That just struck me funny, so I drew these for her. I wondered if it would be too gross for her. But she writes about beasts and dragons, so I shouldn't have worried.

Love the octopi Dana! I'll add them to the presentation. Cuts are the cure, but I've learned to save them. Chopped scenes sometimes end up in another book.
